JavaScript developer B J May had a hilarious encounter with his smart home security system mid week, when his Nest Hello doorbell thought he was the caped crusader himself. He and wife Cori — who also have a YouTube channel “WeMay’dIt” — had installed the smart doorbell “paired with the Nest x Yale lock” but even its night-vision didn’t help it recognise the man of the house when Batman was the alternative.“My @nest doorbell automatically locks the front door when it sees a face it doesn’t recognize. Today it didn’t recognize me, so I went into the app to investigate and …” Mr May tweeted, including a picture that his doorbell took zeroing in on Batman on his tshirt. The doorbell decided the caped crusader should fall in the foe category and immediately secured the door — going viral soon after it was tweeted with over 33,000 likes. B J May is not fazed in the slightest, heading off to work — this time in a Dr Pepper tshirt. Picture: BJMay’s doorbell/@BJMay/Twitter. FOLLOW SOPHIE FOSTER ON FACEBOOK “The door will not unlock if it sees a friendly face. That’s not a feature. It just reacts to an unknown face by locking the door just in case you forgot to lock it and a stranger approaches. It didn’t recognize Batman,” Mr May tweeted.More from newsParks and wildlife the new lust-haves post coronavirus16 hours agoNoosa’s best beachfront penthouse is about to hit the market16 hours ago James Packer splashes $80m on new home B J May had the option to unlock the door via an app. Picture: @BJMay/Twitter. My family was home, and my son was in/out the front door playing. I unlocked the door using my pin. I also could have used the phone app. It was no biggie, I just thought the face recognition fail was funny.” B J May’s picture of the caped crusader tshirt that sent his doorbell into lockdown. Picture: @BJMay/Twitter.The experience has not soured him to the smart tech though: “I like it quite a lot. Yes, regular old keys are great. We just like the ability to remotely allow our kids into the house via the app without issuing them physical keys that can be lost/stolen.” Michael Clarke bats for Noosa real estatelast_img
