PS4 gets Watch Dogs and Assassins Creed 4 DLC 6 months before

first_imgYesterday Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami stated that the Xbox One and PS4 are almost identical in terms of hardware. In fact, he only needs one of the systems to develop a game, the other one should just work. If true, it means Sony and Microsoft’s battle for the attention of gamers will mainly come down to securing exclusive content. And it looks as though Sony has scored itself a major win in that regard.Sony has secured exclusive rights to the DLC for both Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed 4 for 6 months. Both games are expected to have 60 minutes of additional gameplay offered through DLC, but in order to play it first, you’ll need to purchase the PS4 versions. That fact has been confirmed in a new PS4 promotional video you can watch below.I think we can expect a lot more of these deals to be struck by both Sony and Microsoft. They are great for marketing campaigns where you can say platform X has more content than platform Y without mentioning they are only timed exclusives. Still, 6 months is a long time to have to wait for new content that others have already played, and it does make the PS4 version of both games look like the better option, especially for completists. The biggest winner in all of this is game developers and publishers. Sony and Microsoft will be very willing to pay extra to get exclusives over the next couple of years, and that means more money being fed back into the development of new games. For gamers, it’s going to be frustrating depending on which console you decide to buy and which platform manages to bag the exclusives. Now read: Watch Dogs no longer launch game, delayed until spring 2014last_img read more
